Calico Field SpanielsText Box: Hunting With A Field Spaniel

As a member of the “Sporting Group,” the Field Spaniel is a flushing dog. This means that the Field Spaniel uses his or her nose to find birds, and subsequently rousts the birds up into the air (flushes the bird) so the the hunter can readily fire. Then the Field Spaniel will retrieve the bird, from land or water, and bring it back.

While the Field Spaniel is not

eligible to run in Field Trials, the breed is eligible for AKC Hunt Tests. The parent club (Field Spaniel Society of America, Inc.) also offers a working dog certificate program.  However, there are many Field Spaniels who work routinely in hunting with their owners and could care less about a title so long as their Field Spaniel does the job they require.
